This Is Not A Love Song is a public symposium around the subject of precarious work and life conditions within the arts and beyond, hosted by the Sandberg Insituut, Amsterdam. It will discuss precarity in light of current neoliberal tendencies that inform today's highly flexible, insecure and meritocratic employment model, the logic of which is particularly present in the Netherlands.

PUB and the Design Department are hosting a joint workshop on e-publishing and typography. This workshop addresses the methods, tools and implications of online publication. What does e-publish do/mean? How does it circulate? What are the repercussions of cloud publishing and how should we interpret the current interest in archives?
The workshop is open to everyone interested in expanding their practice through e-publishing activities and typography. From designing your own type, developing and establishing PUB type foundry to raising a new e-publication project. Archiving, supporting, distributing typography and online publishing across and beyond the Sandberg Instituut.

2018PUB R @ Istanbul Design Biennial
PUB Radio will have a conversation about the concept, A School of Schools, between Deniz Ova and Jan Boelen followed. Covering the challenges faced by design education in today's changing world, the conversation turned to the role of a design biennial and how it can be used as an experimental space for alternative approaches to design education. Both reflected on how the next edition of the Istanbul Design Biennial can build on the previous editions to create a sustainable legacy for the initiative.

Extending over the summer of 2018, and featuring multiple multidisciplinary events, this edition presents a wide range of artistic practices, including performance, sculpture, design, sound, artistic research, writing, and more. The artists in this project comprise a wide range of backgrounds, concerns, and aesthetic sensibilities, but are joined here by a sense of productive criticality.

2018PUB R Marathon Broadcast @ Sandberg Instituut Graduation Show
Three days of online live radio transmission direct from the Graduation Shows of the Sandberg Instituut. The mobile radio was traveling around Amsterdam, serving as a space for distribution and reflection. PUB Radio broadcasted conversations, readings, music, live feed reports, sound experiments and more from all Sandberg’s departments.

This workshop was open to anyone interested in learning about formats for transmitting sound, dialogue, music and stories through online radio. The purpose was to bring students from different backgrounds together to exchange and learn about collaborative online audio publishing and broadcasting.
The aim of this workshop was to form a core team for PUB’s first marathon transmission during Graduation Week. This core team includes producers, hosts, and an extended network of co-producers, collaborators and contributors. The founding workshop was culminated with a live radio sound check and audio test that was the first PUB Radio’s transmission.

PUB FF was the first edition is the first edition of an annual fanzine fair. PUB FF is an alternative platform connecting self-organized artist and publishers, expanding the notion of distribution and building bridges between the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Sandberg Instituut and the outside world.

2018PUB Publishing Workshop @ Gerrit Rietveld Academie
The workshop was open to everyone interested in expanding their practice through publishing activities and intends to bring together students from different backgrounds in order to ignite and push on collaborative publishing projects.
The workshop kicked off with a guest-lecture on how publishing can be used within an artistic practice which was open to all SI students. Presentations made by Delphine Bedel (Meta/Books), François Girard-Meunier (SuperSuperSuperSuper), Daniel Seemayer and Miquel Hervás Gómez (GRA Bookbinding workshop).
Within one week, together, the participants established the PUB Journal.
PUB is a trans-department platform initiated by students of the Sandberg Instituut in 2017 to structure and establish a publishing practice within their school. While investigating the possibilities in the context of an artistic master program, PUB is a hub to identify interdisciplinary connections and accelerate collaborations amongst students and third parties.
